9 weeks.

he's the cutest.. don't you think?

tad is 9 weeks old.
he weighs 7 lbs 1 oz.

since leaving the hospital, we are yet to have a week with less then 2 tad doctor appointments.
talk about high maintenance!
today we went in for his 2 month immunizations.
while there, i was informed that i, too, was due for a couple shots. (dang it!)
i had all 3 boys with me, so i needed to be brave getting my shots. and i was :)
tad was brave too. he only cried for a couple seconds.
after tad's appointment, we went upstairs to get our flu vaccine.
chet and holden got to get theirs via nasal spray.
so easy, right?!
well.. holden thought it was easy - didn't even flinch.
chet, on the other hand, kicked and screamed on his turn.
it was embarrassing as i held down my 5 year old, in some sort of wrestling move, while he had the simplest procedure done!
chet wins the award for wimpiest patient today!

i caught tad and matt being napping buddies the other night.

another fall walk.

although we are having a lovely fall this year, i still feel a sense of stress as winter lurks closer.
i feel a need to get out as much as we can.

there is this plot of land , just 10 minutes west of where we live, called the Sandy Cross Conservation.
it is a pretty, kid-friendly place to take kids for a hike.
we went there last summer and then kinda forgot about it until this last weekend.
on this past sunday afternoon, we took our boys there for a nice fall walk.
this is what the area looks like right now. if you are facing west, you have an awesome view of the mountains and, if you are facing north, you have an awesome view of downtown calgary.

here are pictures from our walk:
(this picture was not staged, but matt will still be embarrassed of it! good thing he only looks on here every couple months!)

and this is my favorite picture from that walk.
the sun was in the perfect spot so, yes, i did make my boys sit in the middle of the path to take a picture!
and, i'd say, it was worth it :)

and this is from a walk we went on with cousins after thanksgiving dinner last week:

the worst!

holden is usually a really good sport.
but, to this day, holden finds no humor in this picture.
everyone else does though!

but he is pretty proud of this picture:

tad faces.

these aren't the most flattering pictures of tad, but they make me laugh!
babies make the cutest (and goofiest) faces.

the big boys.

matt has recently introduced our boys to star wars.
and, to my surprise, they love it.
i have never watched a star wars movie - maybe because i'm stubborn? - i just think they are kinda dorky!
you should have seen the look on matt's face when i asked him if there was a reason the movies are called star wars?
haha i thought it was a valid question.
he did not.
anyways.. our boys now like to play 'star wars'.
they have decided these light posts, on the path by our house, look like "dark vader" (which i think is pretty clever!) and they fight them with their sticks light sabers.

i feel like i have posted a lot more about tad then our other stinkers lately, so i thought i would post some tidbits about them:

chet.

i knew school would make chet grow up fast but, my word, it is happening faster then i was anticipating.
it might also be the addition of tad to our family, and his promotion to big brother of two, that is speeding it up.
i am really proud of him but, at the same time, i want him to slow the heck down!
chet is very excited about learning new things these days.
i often catch him quietly reciting, to himself, all the letters on a piece of paper.
he also likes to practice writing words, which means my life is one gigantic spelling bee.
"mom, how do you spell giraffe? ..excavator? ..spaghetti?"
chet is also very diligent when it comes to his homework.
chet is a great helper with tad. i am blown away by how much love and patience he has for our new friend.
chet loves to hold tad, and lay by him, and try to sooth him when he is sad.
chet has a very sweet heart.
he even offers to pump milk for tad! haha we may need to have a little talk about that one day...
he is very concerned about my feelings. he gives me extra long hugs, and kisses on the cheek, when he sees i am feeling down. (sometimes i feel guilty for putting that on him, but it sure is nice.) i really hope he is sensitive to the feelings of his friends and classmates as he goes to school.
chet is way more willing to try new foods lately.. which is a huge deal, if you know chet!
he has made some new friends at school - aiden, griffin, and diesel.
he is fun to have conversations with.
chet has a great imagination.
he is a whiz with lego. seriously, him and holden are, by far, better then me at creating lego trucks.
he is a good helper.. when he wants to be :)
i would say chet's downfall these days is his whining. he has always been a whiny fellow. but i assume he will have to grow out of that, or be very lonely in life!
he is kind, thoughtful, funny, smart, and my favorite 5 year old around.

holden.

with chet gone at school a couple days per week, holden is getting some alone time - something he hasn't had a whole lot of up until this point in his life. and i am not sure he really knows what to do with it!
on his chet-less days, holden follows me around like a lost puppy. EVERYWHERE i go, he follows. and he talks my ear off too!
holden and i are both happy when it is time to pick chet up from school!
it makes me realize just how much he relies on his big brother.
he is actually really good at playing on his own, but only if someone else is in the room with him. i guess he is just used to having that company.
he is great at making car/truck/explosion sound effects - a true boy!
holden is so good at sharing.
i was playing hungry hungry hippos with him the other day and was trying to make it so his hippo got always the most marbles. i figured he would like to be the winner. but, at the end of each match, he would pass me a couple marbles to make it more even! and he would make sure we took turns getting the special yellow marble!
he has a sweet heart.
holden is a silly boy. sometimes a bit more weirdo then silly!
he has a contagious smile.
he is independent. sometimes infuriatingly so, but i know it is a good trait in the end.
he likes to help.
holden is creative. he puts a lot of thought in his crafts. when he colors a page, the WHOLE page gets colored.
he sticks his tongue out when he is concentrating.
he is always up for trying something new. and, when he doesn't get it right the first time, he doesn't get upset. he usually drops a cute line like, "aww man", and then goes it another go.
holden always notices the sky - the color of it, the shapes of clouds, the things that are flying by in it, the weather that is brewing. it's neat how much he loves observing the sky.
he loooves candy.
he also loooves fruit.
his downfall is his temper.
holden sure knows how to throw a tantrum and matt and i have no idea how to deal with them.
he gets mad and, oh, so destructive. my goodness, you should see the boys' bedroom after holden has lost in his mind in there. it would be hard to make such a mess, if you tried!
matt tells me to be patient because it is just a stage. it just better be a real short stage.
holden is a happy boy, a good friend, a whole lot of handsome, and a great cuddle buddy.

fall outings.

we have had the loveliest fall days lately.
i have always had a chip on my shoulder towards fall because it is the season that comes before winter (insert pouty face), but fall is actually a really pretty season.
the colors are amazing.
and the warm, breezy days are so nice to spend outside.
we have been trying hard to get out and take advantage of fall.
this week, we went on lots of walks, bike rides, and trips to playgrounds.
my favorite days were the ones we spent in fish creek park.
the park is gorgeous right now. and the ice cream we got at annie's was tasty too.

this is from a colder day last week:

we grew pumpkins!

we grew these pumpkins.
all 6 of them.
all 6 of those ridiculously cute pumpkins.

and, on a completely different note, i took the boys to the mall the other day to return something.
impressed?!
you should be.
me + 3 children + the mall
and guess what? we survived!

chet and holden were really into trying on hats this mall trip.
and chet was super hurt when i told him he couldn't buy this one:
such a goof.

7 weeks.

2 weeks --> 6 weeks

tad will be 7 weeks tomorrow.

he had a doctors appointment yesterday and weighed in at 6 lbs 3 oz.
that means he has gained more the 50% of his weight since birth!
he is getting a bigger every day, but he is still a little pip-squeak!

tad is still 5 days from his due date. (october 16)
it is super weird to think that he should still be inside me.
heck, this boy already has his own personality and relationships.. it seems odd to think he could still be bored and lonely in my belly.
i don't necessarily like that he arrived early, but i do like that i have already got to meet him and fall in love with him.

tad is such a nice boy. and we think he is an easy baby.
i think part of us thinking he is easy is perspective, and the other part is that he is actually just super easy.
as for the perspective part.. matt and i have come to realize with baby #3 (as i am sure all parents do) that newborns aren't actually that hard!
they don't require all that much from you.
sure, they kinda mess up your sleep schedule. but that's really it.
if only we had realized that with the first 2!
i suppose that kind of perspective can only come after taking care of, and loving, bigger kids.
holden tantrums are so much trickier to diffuse then a tad hunger meltdown.

other facts about tad:

tad still sleeps most of the day.
he is so sweet when he is sleeping but, man, i love seeing his eyes when they are open.
he is a grunter. and his grunting sounds just like a goat.
he also makes high pitched sounds that sound like a pterodactyl.
tad is so nice to snuggle with. he is still so floppy and melts right into you when you hold him.
i was fully prepared for tad's hair to fall out (because chet and holden's did) but he is hanging onto his fuzzy head very nicely.
another way he is different then his big brothers is that he isn't a huge fan of being swaddled.
we swaddled the heck out of chet and holden - it calmed them down and helped them sleep - so we had a hard time accepting that tad didn't like getting wrapped up like a burrito.
tad poops all the time. seriously, all. the. time.
he isn't very good with a binky yet.
he eats about 3 ounces every 4 hours.
he likes to look out windows.
he is happy when we go on walks.
he has the softest skin and the nicest little cheeks to kiss.
tad is so loved by his brothers.
matt and i are very impressed by the way chet and holden love him.
we always catch those big brothers of his laying next to him, examining his little features, fetching him soft blankets, or singing him songs.
they love to hold him, help feed him, and show him off to anyone they can. they think he is the cutest.

we love our taddy bear.
tad's first shoulder ride:
tad was having a nap on our rug. i left the room for a couple minutes and, when i came back, chet and holden had fetched him every blanket they could find! you can't really tell from the picture, but there were 8 blankets on tad. and a lego goat :)
