it actually makes me a little sad to say that holden is 6 and that he is off to first grade in a month. stop growing up, for goodness sake! i just love the stage of life he/we are in right now.
holden's birthday landed on the day before our big trip up to canada. i was worried that the need to get ready for that might distract from his celebrations, but we just procrastinated our packing until the morning of our flight so that we could celebrate him in full force, from sun up to sun down!
matt is almost always out the door by 5:30am but, randomly, he had a meeting that meant he got to leave later on holden's birthday. so holden got to wake up and open his presents that morning with matt, which was special. his big gift from us was a new bike. he was starting to look like one of those big circus bears riding on a tiny bike, so it was a much needed gift! he was thrilled to get it, and took it out for a ride right after breakfast. he chose to have donuts for his birthday breakfast and a happy meal for his birthday dinner. and, in the middle of the day, we went to our friend's place to swim. we put a candle in an ice cream treat and sang to holden at the pool, and then also put candles in a little store bought cake and sang to him right before bed. it was a very good day for that cute boy!
when we were up in canada holden got to have a combined birthday party with his cousin, chase. it was a race car themed party. holden was a little worried to share a party, because he thought it might mean he wouldn't get as much gifts, attention, etc., but that didn't end up being the case at all! he had the best time celebrating with all of our calgary family.
holden is such a handsome kid.
he has the most darling little freckles across his nose.
i love the way his hair swoops across his forehead, and how he flips his head to get it out of his eyes (think early justin bieber!).
he hasn't lost any teeth yet, and none of them are even wiggly.
he is 4' tall and 48lbs - i don't know how that compares to the rest of the 6 year old population in the books, but he appears to be a lanky fellow. he is just an inch shorter then his 8 year old brother, and is basically just skin and bones!
i love it when he does a real good belly laugh.
holden is smart.
his report card was every parents dream!
he is reading above grade level, and is excited to keep moving up.
holden loves to draw and make crafts. he creates new art pieces at an insane rate!
holden loves to help. he has always been that way.
he can put together quite tricky lego sets all by himself.
he likes lego, playmobile, playdoh, hot wheels, and exploring outside.
when he is excited, he does the cutest billy goat hops when he walks!
he still pronounces it 'lellow', instead of yellow. and most people think he says his name is 'owen' when he introduces himself.
holden is a great bike rider and swimmer.
holden is such a great brother. he is so supportive of chet, and so sweet to tad.
he often talks to tad in third person.
holden's favorite treats are candy and gum.
holden is a really good eater. he loves fruit and grilled meats.
he shares a room with his brothers, and a twin bed with chet (by choice!). he is almost always the first one to fall asleep.
when he wakes up in the morning, he is ready to go!
holden is likable.
he is so good at making new friends, everywhere we go.
he still throws his heinous tantrums at times, but always ends up needing a snuggle after he snaps out of it.
holden as a kind heart.
