chet's concert.

apparently one of us didn't think making silly hair in the bath was as fun as the rest of us...
oh well, can't win 'em all!
it didn't help that it was a first-thing-in-morning bath.
because, to be honest, those are never super successful in our home.
but today we had to have an early bath so that chet looked extra handsome for his music class concert this morning.
'concert' makes it sound a lot more official then it was.
especially because we are pretty sure chet didn't do anything he was supposed to.
we have a lot of video of him banging on his drum when he wasn't supposed to.. and playing his xylophone when he wasn't supposed to... and being quiet when he was supposed to be singing...
it's adorable.
mostly because he thinks he was really great!
and heck, that was the whole point.

what else is new with us?

- we go on lots of bike rides lately.
- we go to story time at the public library.
- we even got library cards and - for the first time in literally decades - i am signing out library books.
- we saw frozen. despite the fact that i swore i would never see it, we saw it. and i was right.. it's not that good.
- chet is in a gymnastics class. i totally should have signed holden up for one too. instead, i just take him to watch chet play on super fun gymnastics equipment with super fun kids for an hour. it's a big, mean tease.
- holden is less then 1 month away from his 2nd birthday.
- matt and i took a CPR class on saturday. and we are ready to save some lives! (not really.)
- we skipped out on our 10 year high school reunion. lame, right? but what is even lamer is that we graduated TEN whole years ago. i swear we aren't that old!

pictures.

who wants to see a whole bunch of pictures of our boys?
oh, you do?
perfect!
scroll on.
it's chet.. not chad.
celebrating tanks 6th birthday with the clarke cousins.
and this one is just because i am madly in love with the happy faces chet draws..

our boys have been off their game since we got here.
they do really well when they have a good routine, so we have been working getting back to one.
and i think we are just about there.
yay!
the trickest thing to deal with has been holden's tantrums because i think tantrums are dumb.
so. dumb.
but, despite the fact that we are being forced to become more patient parents [and, let me tell you, matt is doing a much better job at it then me], our boys are still my favorite little stinkers on the planet. and i sure think they're handsome as heck.
we are having fun exploring new places [and re-exploring old places] with our little guys.

oh my, it has been too long.

oh, hello blog!
it's been a while.
a long while.
i am sad i have gone so long without blogging.
but - go figure - i have gone so long without blogging because i am sad.

i had anticipated this move being a sad one.
but it has been so much harder on my heart then i was prepared for.
our old life was far from perfect.
and our new one [according to a pros/cons list] should make me so happy.
but i'm sad.

i haven't wanted to write a pitifully sappy post, but i also haven't wanted to write some fake post about how thrilled i am to be here.
and finding a healthy balance between the two extremes has proven to be a bit tricky.
so i just haven't posted anything.
that's probably the best solution, right?
hmm.. probably not.
so, here is me skipping over all the leaving california/moving to alberta stuff [for a wee bit longer], and posting about something simple.
i just need to get back in my blog routine.
it's always so much harder to blog when you fall behind!

***

we have had a lot of fun catching up with all our friends and family here in calgary.
it has been a treat.
yesterday, we got together with the fox family.
we loaded up their 4 kids, our 2 kids, and all the supplies needed for a hotdog dinner, and headed down into fish creek park for a couple hours.
we rode our bikes down into the park.
matt pulled our 2 boys in our bike trailer.
jocelyn had 1 kid on the back of her bike.
jeff had 1 kid on the front of his bike AND 2 in their bike trailer.
... and i had no kids.
haha apparently i'm the lazy one.
although, i did have a backpack full of hotdog buns and marshmallows..
and we all know how heavy those are.

i really thought our plans were going to get ruined by the rain clouds that lurked above us all day, but they didn't.
and i am so happy they didn't.
we spent the whole evening biking, making a fire, roasting hotdogs and marshmallows, and tossing rocks in fish creek.
we even saw a couple deer down there!
the boys loved it. holden especially.
i'm pretty sure he would have sat beside the water and tossed rocks in it all night.

matt has so many childhood memories from time spent in fish creek park.
we'll have to take advantage of the park this summer so our boys can make memories down there too.

the next 3 pictures make me laugh. i live in a house of goofy boys.
i took this picture in case holden and brooke get married one day!
