another big catch up!

some quick fun facts about our boys these days...

CHET.
- chet's entire class refers to him as 'chetty mcnugget'. i have no idea how the name came to be. it's not like he has an obsession with chicken mcnuggets! he likes his nickname though, and i think it is funny when we run into his friends and they refer to him as that.
- chet really likes to wear tall socks and hoodies lately. it's his 'thing'. he still couldn't care less about what he wears on the rest of his body (which i like because i still get to lay out a cute outfit for him the night before) but he is quite particular that tall socks and a hoodie are part of his attire.
- chet has had a student teacher in his class for the second half of this year. her name is mrs. stephanie cox, and she has been such a fun addition to his classroom. she is young, bright, and super creative.
- i have been able to be the 'P.E. teacher' for chet's class this year. (at least that's what they call me!) the school doesn't have a P.E. teacher (which i think it such a shame) so the teachers are in charge of making sure the kids get a certain amount of organized physical activity each week. i offered to help out with that earlier in the year, and am still going in on thursday afternoons and trying my best to teach the kids simple games and get their bodies moving. it was been a major learning opportunity for me, but it has been so fun to have that special relationship with chet and his friends.
- chet can play 6 songs on a recorder, he was in his school choir (he even tried out for a solo part! he didn't get the part, but i was so impressed he tried!), he has improved so much with his baseball skills this spring, he is excited to play soccer in the fall, he is a great swimmer, and excellent reader, and has so many friends at school.

HOLDEN.
- holden has always been really good with his body. like, he will watch someone throw something or do a move, and he can imitate it so well. it's a neat skill to have! apparently some kids in his class have been dabbing lately and holden has grasped how to do it so well! haha i die laughing every time he does it.
- i have been able to volunteer in holden's class a few times a week this year. it has been SO fun to get to know his classmates and watch him interacting with them. i am so not ready for him to move onto first grade (i get teary eyed just writing that!) but he is a smarty-pants and will do so well.
- holden has always been SO GOOD at making friends. he is the kind of kid that makes a new buddy every time we are at the park. i love that about him.
- holden is so thoughtful. he loves to be a helper, and he often makes a sacrifice just to make one of his brothers happy.
- holden is almost identical in size to chet right now. they are still asked if they are twins almost every day, and even their friends sometimes mix them up when they walk by at school!
- holden didn't know any of the required sight words when he entered kindergarten, and now he knows every single one. he will sit down with a simple book now and sound his way through it. he is so excited to be able to read on his own. we are so proud of him! he also has nice printing, the cutest drawings, an awesome swing and throw in baseball, and is a great bike rider.

TAD.
- tad is in such a good stage of life right now. once he is potty trained, he will be perfect! he has been a wilder child then we are used to so far, and i have been worried what he would become. but he has turned into such a fun kid. he is still pretty fearless, hates holding hands, and is always saying 'my turn' or 'i do it'. but he is such a great little buddy. he is so good at playing, and helping, and copying, and imagining. and now that he can communicate his problems to us, he has a lot less tantrums. woohoo! everyone keeps asking me if he will start preschool next year, or if he will do transitional kindergarten the year after, and i am like NO WAY! i am excited for our next 2 years at home together. even though he chooses matt over me EVERY TIME, i still think we are besties.
- tad talks non-stop when we are at home, but he is so quiet when we are out. i love his little voice.
- tad is always asking to get naked so he can go play in our little kiddie pool in the backyard. he will play for hours in the nude! (which means i need to apply sunscreen in allll the places!)

and now for a bunch of pictures...

putting our zoo passes to use.

we found some dirty little orphans at a baseball game.

at the park.

tad likes to wear a backpack to school so he is like the big kids.

awards from school!

MVP's in baseball!
(chet's team is the pirates, hence the parrot on his shoulder)

we decorated easter eggs as a family, and then shipped the boys off to arizona to spend easter weekend with my parents. i felt kind of guilty to send them away for the holiday, but it worked out so great. the neighorhood my parents live in had this awesome easter carnival that our boys loved, and they got spoiled the entire weekend with lots of swimming, golf cart rides, a movie date, bahama bucks, lego, and oodles of easter candy!
while the boys were away, matt and i had a staycation at home. we figured we may as well just stay at home, instead of take a hotel, and it worked great. each day, we went out and explored different parts of LA. it was such a fun weekend for us! thanks mom and dad!

we took our first ride on the metro to downtown LA and felt like we were no longer in LA.

we sat in the best seats ever at the dodgers game. (thanks to someone matt works with!)

i turned 32, even though i wanted to stay 31.

i got to tag along on a field trip with both of our boys' classes. this was chet's:

my mom came and stayed with us for almost 2 weeks after our car accident. not sure how we would have made it through without her! we were sad to see her go. we just hope that if we keep mentioning to my parents that they should move here, that they might actually do it one day!
(yep, tad is butt naked.)

flying kites at the beach. it is the perfect place to fly kites because the breeze off the ocean does 99% of the work for you!

we did lots of car shopping in april. our one car got totaled, and we sold matt's truck, so we were completely carless for a bit. we finally found what we needed, and now own a honda pilot and a volkswagon jetta. as hard as it was for matt to sell his truck, these are more suitable cars for us. matt now has a commuter car for his heinous commutes, and i have a car that isn't a total pain in the butt to get 3 carseats in! we feel extra parenty now that we have a vehicle with a third row!

chet had to combine to animals to create a new species. this was the diorama that was part of his project.
and this was another project chet did. his class was learning about goverment and how the different parts of a city work together. their class each got to make a part of the city (chet chose pharmacy) and then learned about how their business works, why it is needed, etc. parents were invited to come see their city one afternoon. the students worked together to make some cute commercials for different businsses in the city. it was fun to watch! i totally remember recording commercials when i was in school!

friends!

and now just a whole bunch of tad pictures!
