happy canada day.
matt asked today what we are celebrating on canada day. i wasn't sure. i figured it must be the day that canada became an independent nation. i googled it and that's the just of it.
i guess i'm not as good of a canadian as i thought. although, someone in our ward the other day told me that i talk like a canadian. i'm a little bit insulted, because the stereotypical candian accent is pretty nasty. (oot and aboot.) but, oh well.
i was watching an episode of boy meets world this morning while feeding chet. early morning tv is pretty brutal, so sometimes i find myself watching the old TGIF classics. jocelyn and i watched TGIF faithfully every friday night for years! anyways the reason i bring it up is because i never realized, until this morning, that shaun's dads name is chet. how funny. it wasn't the best episode for chet. he died in it.
lots of people ask us 'WHY CHET?'
to be honest, chet has absolutley no special meaning. and it was the last name we added to our very long list of possible baby names. the only place we had heard the name chet was on 'the real world: brooklyn'. matt and i have never followed the show, but that season we watched it quite a bit. there was a mormon boy, named chet, living in the house. and we found it neat to watch how he managed to keep his standards quite high in such an awful house. his real name was chester, but he went by chet. that is what most of the books about baby names say the meaning of chet is - 'short form for chester'. but matts sister, melissa, found out that it also means 'fort'. (sorry chet. you're name has a lame-o meaning).
this is real world chet.

chet came 6 weeks early. so we weren't really prepared with a name we both agreed on. we went into the hospital that night expecting to be sent home again. but we weren't. we spent the next day and a half debating over names. we agreed his middle name would be sawyer. but we bounced back and forth between chet and bridge for the first name. matt was leaning towards bridge and i was more for chet. matt said i could have it my way. but i was a total girl and said something like 'i want you to want to name him chet'. i never told matt he could have his way because i knew he wouldn't think twice about using his favorite! so...we did the mature thing.
we played rock, paper, scissors.
and i won. a lot. and i won all the other games we played too! and that is how chet came to be.
one more thing about the little dude. he looves the tv. it makes me nervous how much he enjoys watching tv. he will kink his neck any way he needs to so he can watch it. it's hard to capture it on film, but this is chet watching pearl harbour with his father.
