i'm kind of obsessed with the beach.

when we visited california to look for a home, our flight didn't get in until late.
and by the time we landed, found our dinky little rental car, and figured out which direction we wanted to head in, it was dark.
there were more direct ways to get to our hotel but, instead of taking the one of them, my sweet husband agreed to drive along the coast.
and along the way we picked up a sub, found us a nice beach, and shared it on a lifeguard tower.
it might not have been the most glamorous dinner on the beach, but it felt so good to be there.
and it sure got me excited for our move.

when i'm sitting at the edge of the water i always end up thinking about how there is this enormous piece of land behind me and this enormous body of water in front of me.. and i am just this little speck sitting right where they both begin.
and it makes me feel extra small. and the world feel really big.
and then i am all of a sudden so grateful to know that heavenly father watching over it all.
because then it isn't scary-big, it is just amazing-big.

on a less thought-provoking note, i also love the sound of the water rolling in, and playing in the waves, and in the sand, and working on my tan when the weather permits :)

so obviously, when we moved here, the beach was #1 on my list of things to do.
#2 was to see the hollywood sign.
but i'm yet to see it. i feel like we have driven all over and it is no where to be found.
that thing is evasive.

anyways.. here are a whole bunch of pictures of some days we have spent at the beach.
most of them are from a beach in malibu, some from santa monica, and one is from long beach.
[i am aware that i am posting too many pictures]

this was chet's very first time seeing the ocean. taking it all in.
before we got to the ocean we described it to chet as 'the place where nemo lives'.
so he was pretty sure he was going to see nemo.
when we left the beach we asked him if he saw nemo, and he replied, 'not yet'.
so he hasn't given up hope!

the water was very cold. holden didn't like it one bit.
larry was the one who thought up this clever picture.
searching for sea creatures.
chet wasn't too sure about the creatures they found.
and i'm pretty sure that was the only reason matt didn't bug me with them..
he knew that i would freak out and then chet would be afraid of them too.
so thanks chet, for being a chicken.
i pinky promised matt that i would go in the water.
so we did.
but just long enough to get our heads under then water. and then we were out of there!
that water is not very warm.
so. much. stuff.
matt said it was 'boring' flying the kite. apparently the ocean breeze that day did all the work.
